CARCO.com.au Raceway, located in Neerabup, Western Australia, is a premier motorsport venue that revs up excitement for racing enthusiasts. Situated approximately 50 km north of Perth, this circuit has been the home of Western Australian motorsport since 1969.
The crux
The main challenge faced by CARCO Raceway was the urgent need to repair a balcony in the grandstand seating area. With the roar of engines and the cheers of fans on the horizon, ensuring the safety and comfort of spectators was paramount. The urgency of this repair was amplified by an upcoming major Supercars event, where any delays could lead to safety risks and a less-than-stellar experience for attendees. This had the potential to put the brakes on the venue’s reputation and revenue, making it critical to get the job done right and on time.
Ready, set….
Not quite go. While the scoping process was smooth, with SJC Building Group providing options for CARCO Raceway to choose from, the repair ran into red lights.
The initial repair attempt fell short due to unforeseen complications beyond our control, leaving the team in a tight spot. Different materials not listed on the plans meant SJC Building Group had to adjust course. With the countdown to the next big race ticking down, the pressure was on to complete the repairs without disrupting operations.
Racing the clock
To tackle the balcony repair head-on, SJC Building Group adopted a strategic approach that would keep them in the fast lane:
- A thorough site inspection to identify any other potential issues with the balcony
- A custom repair plan was drawn up, based on a consultation with CARCO
- Work was completed by specialist team members to make sure the Supercars deadline was met
The pedal to the metal approach paid off. With the repairs completed ahead of schedule, CARCO Raceway hosted its May Supercars race as planned.
Constant (and proactive) communication
The game changer for CARCO Raceway. They needed to know that the project would work, and needed the confidence to go ahead with the Supercars event.
