Kongsberg Maritime, a leader in the maritime industry, sought to enhance its operational capabilities by renovating one of its key workshops. This renovation was crucial to support their ongoing commitment to innovation and excellence in maritime technology. The workshop was to be transformed into a state-of-the-art facility, enabling Kongsberg to maintain its competitive edge and meet industry demands.
The crux
To ensure a seamless transition from construction to operation, a clear plan and timeline were set in place from day 1. Because construction doesn’t always go to plan, flexibility was required as we progressed – keeping multiple stakeholders (the building owners, the local council and the client) informed and happy relied on open and proactive communication throughout. Our approach meant issues were addressed promptly and plans adjusted as needed, keeping the project on track.
Adjusting course
The work began with a set scope and evolved throughout the project. In addition to the workshop renovation, we worked with Kongsberg Maritime to fix their Air Conditioning system, which broke over the Christmas period, and additional problems like leaking skylights and drains not clearing. This service, while not part of the scope, meant the operations and comfort of Kongsberg Maritime weren’t disrupted.
Constant (and proactive) communication
The work for Kongsberg Maritime wasn’t only a job for SJC Building Group – it was obvious we knew the project scope, site and client. And this knowledge saw SJC Building Group complete scope revisions to fit Kongsberg Maritime’s budget, reschedule works following delayed approvals from the Department of Transport and conduct site visits to provide guidance (more than once).
Our Project Manager liaised closely on a weekly basis with Kongsberg Maritime staff to provide updates on trade movements and project updates. This communication is the dedication and commitment to client support that’s become part and parcel of the SJC Building Group experience.
